Correspondence between Ryder and the War Office, the Public Record Office and a number of Sudan Government staff concerning the location of the wrecked steamer Abbas which was sunk during Colonel Stewart's failed attempt to reach Cairo from the besieged Khartoum in 1884. Enclosed with the letters are a copy of a War Office map dated December 1884 showing the site of Stewart's murder and the wrecked steamer (SAD.401/4/5) and relevant extracts from Gordon and the Sudan by Bernard M.
