The manor

In 1667 the manor was settled on Sir Gilbert Gerard (of Fiskerton)'s second wife Dame Mary, a daughter of John Cosin Bishop of Durham, and their two sons: Gilbert, who later took the name of Cosin, and Samuel. The property was subsequently mortgaged several times and in 1690 Sir Samuel Gerard purchased his brother's interest in this and other properties. The manor was finally conveyed to Dame Mary Thompson, widow of Sir Stephen Thompson of York, in 1697.
