Refers to a previous lease and release of 20 and 21 March 1837 whereby Brown was given that land whereon he has erected a dwelling house at Howlett Hall, Chester- le-Street, containing by estimation 7 yards in the front from east to west, and extending 14 yards backwards or thereabouts from north to south. (1) by this deed directs and appoints that this land be conveyed to (2) to whom he is now indebted for goods sold and delivered to the value of £45, and an agreement for them to advance him a further £45. Interest on this loan is calculated at a rate of 5% per annum. The total amount of principal monies to be recoverable under this security is not to exceed £200.

Transfer of mortgage, referring to three previous indentures involving the respective principal sums of £335 6s 4d, £300 and £965, which are still owing, but all interest has been paid to date. (3) have agreed to paid the first two sums to (1), and to lend (2) a further £2,999 13s 8d, with interest charged at £4 15% per annum, and repayments due on 20 June and 20 December every year. Lands involved are: Low Pasture containing 13 acres, 3 roods, 20 perches, Meadowfield containing 9 acres, 2 roods, 5 perches, Westfield containing 7 acres and 16 perches, Littlefield containing 4 acres, 2 roods, 12 perches and a stone quarry containing 2 acres and 7 perches as well as waste ground that is now used as a road. These are mortgaged by (2) to secure the total sum of £4,600. A map of the property is attached.

In consideration for £1,250 paid to (1) by (2), (1) surrenders the use of all that parcel of ground situate in Bishopwearmouth in a certain new street intended to be called Hudson Street, containing in the front or west part from north to south 63 yards and 1 foot, and on the east 59 yards and 1 foot, and in breadth from west to east at the south end, 29 yards and 2 feet, and at the north end 24 yards 1 foot and 6 inches. This land is surrendered together with the malting, 7 dwelling houses and all other erections or buildings, subject to an annual rent of £13 6s, with interest of £5 per centum per annum.

John Byers is indebted to John Vickers in the sum of £200, and as security for the loan, and in consideration of 5s paid to Byers by Vickers, is mortgaging those lands known as Shullingford, parish of Stanhope, consisting of the East Field containing 1 acre, 3 roods, and a parcel of land called the Rushy pasture containing 4½ acres, as well as all that leasehold tenement called High House, parish of Stanhope, and all those 5 parcels of ground containing together by estimation 12 acres, 3 roods and 13 perches. Interest at £5 per centum per annum which is subject to two previous mortgages for £400 and £330 and interest.

Repayment is due on 1 January, with interest remaining at £5 per centum per annum. Hereby conveyed unto the mortgagees is all that parcel of ground near the village of Hartburn, parish of Stockton, measuring from north to south 141 feet, and from east to west at the southern end 69 feet and at the northern end 60 feet and 6 inches, containing in the whole 1,081 square yards.
