Diary of a trek by lorry from Nyala to Kubbum where W. Luce spent two nights in a tree in a fruitless search for lion (SAD.829/12/39-42), an inspection of cattle quarantine at Wilgidai (SAD.829/12/41) and of a trek by horse by way of Mandang, Sambalang, Jangi, Gideiki and Abu Deimbo to the foothills of Jabal Marra. The purpose of the trek was to investigate accusations against Shartai Musa Sulayman, but in the absence of a key witness, W. Luce took the opportunity to climb Jabal Marra as far as Lake Deriba (SAD.829/12/48-56), describing the climb in some detail and the existence of cultivation on stone faced terraces in the foothills (SAD.829/12/47-48)
