Catchwords: Some traces of contemporary catchwords survive.
Script

Preface and text written in protogothic by a single hand, glossed by two hands and subsequently by others.

Binding

18th century panelled calf binding. Fly- and endleaves preserve traces of the turnovers (evidently pink-red leather) from an earlier binding. There is a small green-stained hole (possibly from a pin fixture) in the upper centre of the endleaf.

Written in Northern France, late 12th century.

Provenance

One of the books given by Hugh de Puiset to Durham Priory.
Inscriptions: “Matheus Ewangelista”, f.iv, top; “liber Hugonis Episcopi”, “Liber Sancti Cuthbertj”, f.iir, top; all approximately 1200 (as in DCL MS A.IV.1).
