The Old Miscellany collection comprises disparate material covering a wide range of topics, including: the financial transactions of sixteenth century Spanish notables; research into Catholic history and notable Catholics such as John Larkin and
Francis Thompson; letters and papers on Ushaw history, notably the early years of the St Cuthbert's Society, the design of the Ushaw medal, and other Pugin architectural initiatives; teaching at Lisbon College; and the Allotment Defence Association.
The papers also include a letter from King Charles I to the earl of Glamorgan securing the services of the Roman Catholics of Ireland to fight on his side during the English Civil War.
Series adopted in June 1985 in order to bring together various documents previously referred to only by a location mark.
